Just Launched: Atlassian Forge On-demand Training

Today we launched our latest training course on Udemy: Jira Cloud App Development with Atlassian Forge.

Atlassian Forge is by far the easiest way to write your own Jira Cloud extensions. When it comes to automations, workflow validators, scripted custom fields and smaller extensions, Forge allows you to write your own in a simple and structured way.

Also, as this year's Atlassian CodeGeist competition has demonstrated so nicely, Forge can be used to develop full-featured apps as well.

For me, the best thing about Forge is that as the app developer, I do not have to worry about creating infrastructure on AWS, GCP or Azure, deploy it, maintain it, make sure it keeps running, keep it secure and run it all myself. Atlassian do it all for me.

My prediction is that over the next two years, more and more Jira administrators will start to write their own extensions, thus saving money by not having to install a large number of Marketplace add-ons. Sometimes add-ons are used for only one or two small features, which could easily be replaced with a Forge app.

And my other prediction is that Marketplace vendors will start to take Forge more seriously over the next couple of years. More and more of the new apps will be built on top of Forge, allowing app vendors to bring new apps to market more quickly than ever. And it will encourage new entrants to the market as well, making it even more exciting to be in the Atlassian space.

Atlassian Forge is a strategic masterstroke. It will keep the ecosystem fresh and exciting. Well done Atlassian.

The way I see it, if you can write your app in Forge, then you should. There will be apps that still require Connect. However, if your app does not need Connect, why make your life difficult if you can have it easy and use Forge.

So, watch this space (the Atlassian space). Forge is here to stay.
